Blog 5 (Job Report) Graduate School

I. Introduction:
1.      Provide a brief description of the type of job that you are you searching for after college. (If there is more than one discuss them all

I am not certain which direction I would like to follow with my career after graduation. There are many things that I am interested in doing within my bachelor’s degree that I will be receiving this year in May. My degree is going to be in Family and Child studies with a concentration in Gerontology. I also have a minor is psychology. My plan is to hopefully get a job with “DYFS,” Division of youth and family services and gain experience and knowledge that will be great for myself as a new student out of college.
I would also like to work in either in a school, nursing home, assisted living home, or Hospital as a Speech Therapist. At my internship, there is a speech therapist that I get to observe sometimes and I just absolutely love everything she does with the patients. I love how the Speech therapist work one on one or in small groups with patients and helps them in their everyday life with their life by improving their speech and swallowing. I find this fascinating.
My ideal job would be one that I would be able to improve somebody’s life and help someone out that will bring a positive impact.

2.      How did you decide on this career path?
I was always interested in helping people and improving people’s lives, so I feel these are some options I can acquire an occupation in. After working as a college student in a nursing home and observing kids in a school setting classroom for some of my classes, I knew being with these populations would be the best for me.

3.      How do you think your personal and educational accomplishments have led you to this career path?
My personal and education accomplishments have led me to this career path because of the degree that I am in because my degree is in the family and child studies setting which allows me to be diverse and able to go into many different directions. I like how this degree is so broad and there are many agencies and companies that I can work for that will allow my education and experience from past jobs to elaborate within this field. I have worked in facilities where I have had the experience of being with patients that relate to my coursework and that will benefit me when I apply for jobs with my experience and coursework.
